Short Commentaries by Al on the Book of Judges

*Judges 17:13 - “Then said Micah, Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.” Micah and his mother, Israelites in Mt. Ephraim, had filled their house with idols, and had hired a traveling Levite to stay and be their full-time priest. Micah’s joy and confidence in his spiritual life are evident in these last words of the chapter. But both his joy and his confidence are without justification. God’s law forbade his making and worshiping idols. God assigned the Levite a service in the Tabernacle, but not in a private house or in idolatry - and his service was not that of priest. People find joy in many religions, and are confident that God will do them good. Micah’s feelings were wrong, and so are those of people today who devise organizations and worship plans that differ from what is written in the Bible. As there is one God, there is one faith and only one body of believers (church) that God identifies as ordained by Him and acceptable to Him - only one faith that leads to Heaven, and only one body that will be saved there (Ephesians 4:4-6).
