Short Commentaries by Al on the Book of Hosea

Return to the Index of Short Commentaries

Hosea 13:6 - “According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.”

As their flocks increased and their pastures remained green and growing Israel grew puffed up, and forgot God. Oh, they still knew that they were Israel. They remembered the history of their powerful release from slavery and settlement in the fruitful land of freedom. They even remembered the law and the temple. But those memories and that knowledge no longer motivated them to think of God with reverence in all their daily activities. Even their worship became motion with no heart in it. Has living in a land of freedom and prosperity turned your heart from God? Is He first in your reason for all that you do? If the question sounds radical to you, perhaps you should rethink your life and reread your Bible.
