Short Commentaries by Al on the Book of EstherReturn to the Index of Short Commentaries |
Esther 4:14 - “ For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” The decree had been written, and sealed with the king’s ring, that all the Jews should be destroyed on a single day in the 12th month. Esther was afraid to approach the king to ask for clemency for her people. Her cousin cautioned her to consider that, being a Jew herself, she would be destroyed with the rest, then he spoke these memorable words. So... why are you in the Kingdom at this time? Did God cause you to be born when you were, and add you to the Kingdom when He did so that you could be a witness to the decline of the Kingdom before the forces of apathy, evil and hatred? Every soul who is saved is given the commission to tell others the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:46-47; 5:42; 8:1,4; Hebr. 5:12). The world doesn’t want to hear it. Many are trying diligently to remove all trace of God and the Bible from this and other nations, and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Will you speak up, or will the people of God be destroyed from the nations? |
