Short Commentaries by Al on the Book of II KingsReturn to the Index of Short Commentaries |
II Kings 22:13 - “Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.” The text for my sermon tonight before the Ridge Road church in Ypsilanti, MI (where I am preaching in a gospel meeting through Friday - come over if you are near enough) includes this verse. The king heard the words of the Lord in the book of Moses, and he knew immediately that he and the nation were guilty of sin: they had done all that was written concerning them. His response? Check with the Lord to see what we should do about it. The Bible is authoritative. God expects everyone to obey it. Many disdain the whole idea. Others learn the fact, then make up their own response. The only response to having ignored or rejected the word of God is to go back to the word of God. The 900 years between the writing and the realization were irrelevant. So are the 2,000 years between the writing of the New Testament and today. God still requires every soul to obey what He spoke, and His servants wrote. |
