Short Commentaries by Al on the Book of I SamuelReturn to the Index of Short Commentaries |
I Samuel 8:10 - “And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king.” God had told Samuel “words”; He didn’t put general ideas into his head and expect him to tell the people something that seemed good to Samuel. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God” (II Timothy 3:16). Literally, it is “God-breathed”: words spoken (breathed out) by God, and therefore it is “profitable for doctrine...” Those who think the Bible an ancient book that is best used only as a guide to good preaching and practice are suggesting that God is incapable of speaking words that are true and profitable in every generation in every culture. What good is a god like that?! If you don’t believe that the Bible is the words of God (I Corinthians 2:13), you don’t believe the Bible. If you don’t believe the Bible, why do you bother to preach any part of it, or listen to those who do? |
