Short Commentaries by Al on the Book of I Chronicles

I Chronicles 13:10 - “But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the Lord, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business”

Jeroboam had removed the Levites from being priests, and had made priests of anyone who would bring a sufficient gift in the service of the idols he had dedicated (verse 9). Every religious practice was changing in Israel, but in Judah the God-ordained tribe was still serving as priests in the God-appointed place by the God-authorized practices (verse 11). When all around you are clamoring after new and “exciting” ways, it is still possible - even if you are in a very small minority - to keep the ways of God. Don’t give in to the voices of modernism; God hasn’t changed His word or His will. He hasn’t departed from the New Testament, and He will not pardon any who do. God’s way is always best. Stand firm in it.

*I Chronicles 15:53 - “For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.” The Lord had “made a breach upon” Israel – He struck Uzzah dead (II Sam. 6) – because they “sought him not after the due order.” There has always been a “due order” (one and only right way) to seek God. It behooves us to be certain that we learn it and follow it in everything. No person can come to God except by following Jesus (John 14:6). His word is the plan by which we go “by” Him (John 12:48-50), and nothing in our lives is exempt from the requirement to heed that word (Colossians 3:17).
